Following several projects by Square Enix that celebrate Chrono Triggerās 30th anniversary, fans are beginning to wonder if these events are hinting that the classic RPG will soon be getting a remake. When asked whether any such developments are in the works, Chrono Trigger supervisor and Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii did not deny it, which has given fans some hope.Ā
During Horiiās latest “KosoKoso HÅsÅ Kyoku” talk show livestream, the seriesā interviewer mentioned she was curious about the current buzz surrounding Chrono Trigger and whether it was āforeshadowingā for something bigger. When Horii asked what she meant by “buzz,” former Shonen Jump Kazuhiko Torishima (another regular member of the talk show) cited a few recent Chrono Trigger-related projects, such as character popularity polls and orchestral concerts planned for 2026. After Horii acknowledged that the concerts would take place next year, he was then asked by Torishima if there were going to be any developments in the franchise after the celebrations.Ā
To this, Horii replied with “I can’t talk about that,” before immediately becoming flustered, jokingly adding comments like, “Wait, if I say that, you’ll figure it out!,ā āDon’t ask!,ā Asking is off-limits!,ā and āI’ll get in trouble!”. The whole panel then burst out in laughter and moved on with the show. Before the topic was switched, however, Torishima cheekily comments āThereās something,ā signaling his belief that a potential remake may be on its way.Ā
On top of the character popularity polls and orchestral concerts that Torishima mentioned, Chrono Trigger-related projects like official music livestreams, an art panel giveaway, a top 10 best track poll, and several arrangement albums also took place this year. While there hasnāt been any official confirmation of a Chrono Trigger remake yet, these events and Horiiās comments have increased fan anticipation for the game.
