Songwriter Kenshi Yonezu’s recent X post – featuring a 17-second animated short of Chainsaw Man’s Reze dancing to his song “Iris Out” – has taken the internet by storm, especially in Japan. With over 142.5 million views and 1.4 million likes at the time writing, it’s currently the second most-liked post of all time in the country, behind the final chapter of Yuuki Kikuchi’s web manga series “100 Nichi Go ni Shinu Wani” (A Crocodile Who Will Die in 100 Days).
As the theme song of Chainsaw Man – The Movie: Reze Arc, “Iris Out” became popular due to its catchy beat and close thematic connections to the movie’s plot, breaking multiple streaming records in Japan across Spotify and other platforms.
The new Reze Dance short is produced by MAPPA, the same animation studio behind the movie and previous TV anime series. Specifically, Reze’s key animation was created by Akiko Kudo, based on original choreography by Bunkei. Digital paints and paint checks were done by Matsuri Hoshi and Naomi Nakano, respectively, while composting was handled by Teppei Ito.
X isn’t the only place you can find the Reze Dance. The official short currently has over 14 million views on YouTube, 1.5 million likes on TikTok, and 1.2 million likes on Instagram.
