Ryu Nakayama and Studio Mayflower announced the Roblox roguelite horror game The Inn on April 10. Nakayama is an established Japanese animator, having worked on a number of major titles including Jujutsu Kaisen and Kill la Kill. He is best known for directing the 2022 TV anime adaptation of Tatsuki Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man, which was his debut title as director.

After wrapping up work on Chainsaw Man’s season one at MAPPA, Nakayama established the independent animation studio Andraft in 2023, and became chief creative officer at Studio Mayflower in 2024. Although the latter is also an animation studio, it seems it dabbles in game development too – with Nakayama at the helm.
The creator dropped the unexpected news in an announcement on X: “I’m making a new Roblox game – The Inn, with Mayflower! I’m the director, but it was my first time working on a game, so it was both challenging and exciting.” Nakayama says that he’s intentionally pushing for a Japanese aesthetic in The Inn, which you can immediately tell from the game’s trailer video. It seems to be set in a traditional Japanese inn, with yokai-like monsters coming at you as you explore spooky randomly generated rooms.
According to Nakayama, The Inn’s release is coming soon. In the meanwhile, those interested can check out the game’s official Discord.
