Capcom’s Dino Crisis anniversary post shows that demand for the franchise’s revival remains as strong as ever

Capcom recently posted artwork from the original Dino Crisis, opening the floodgates to endless requests for remakes, remasters and sequels.

The official Capcom X account recently celebrated 26 years of Dino Crisis. Though there was no announcement of a new title, the post itself – including official artwork from the first game – was enough to get fans excited and hopeful for the dinosaur survival horror franchise’s revival.

The first Dino Crisis was initially released in Japan in 1999 for the PlayStation. Created by Shinji Mikami – who directed the first Resident Evil and had just finished work as a producer on Resident Evil 2 – Dino Crisis shares many similarities with Mikami’s previous work, including puzzle-solving and tank-based controls. Dino Crisis’s inclusion of quick and ferocious dinosaur enemies allowed Capcom to bill it as an action horror title. The mix of horror and action on an island overrun by dinosaurs spawned two sequels (Dino Crisis 2 and 3) and a light gun shooter spin-off (Dino Crisis Stalker).

While Mikami has commented that there is likely no room for new developments in the Dino Crisis franchise given the success of Monster Hunter (source: Eurogamer), many found his statement to be unexpected, as the two franchises have little in common apart from featuring large monsters. Then again, as Mikami no longer works at Capcom, he likely has no say in a potential Dino Crisis revival.

Dino Crisis

Given the franchise’s unique premise, it’s no wonder that Dino Crisis fans flocked to the Capcom anniversary post. Amidst the usual requests for a reboot, remake, and sequel, some just want to express their nostalgia and love for Dino Crisis. The official Capcom X account occasionally makes anniversary posts for past games, but in this case, the long-standing absence of Dino Crisis game has fans clamoring for something new.
