Capcom to hold first ever game development contest using their in-house RE Engine

Today, Capcom announced that they will be holding the Capcom Games Competition, a game development contest using their proprietary RE Engine. Debuting in 2014, the RE Engine has since become Capcom’s primary game engine, used for flagship IPs like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry and Street Fighter.

The competition is part of Capcom’s initiative to foster young talent and give creators a chance to interact with the RE Engine. Contest participants will be given full access to the engine via cloud. In teams of up to 20 people, participants will create their pitched games over a 6-month period. 10 million yen in prize money will be distributed among the best teams, with the Grand Prize totaling 5 million yen (around $34k USD). In addition, Capcom will support further production work on games that they deem to have commercial potential.

The contest is open to anyone aged 18 and over who is enrolled in a university, graduate school, technical college, or vocational school in Japan. The entry period lasts from December 9, 2024, 14:00 to Friday, January 17, 2025, 11:00 (JST). Capcom will screen applications and notify accepted participants in late January 2025.
