Blue Archive and VTubers dominate Comiket, Japan’s largest doujinshi convention

Japanese Comiket participants were surprised to see how much of the convention's booth space is dedicated to Blue Archive and VTuber content.

December 2025 marks 50 years since Japan’s Comic Market (Comiket) doujinshi convention was inaugurated. While numerous game, anime, and manga franchises are to be featured at this Winter’s Comiket 107 through doujinshi and cosplay, the most dominant source material for fan-made content seem to be Nexon’s gacha TRPG Blue Archive, and VTubers. Japanese eventgoers on X have been expressing surprise at the sheer booth space being dedicated to the two.

As usual, Blue Archive’s island is enormous.

Japan’s Tokyo Big Sight exhibition and convention center is divided into the East, West, and South Exhibition Halls – all of which will host Comiket 107 attendees from December 30 to 31, 2025.

Of the East Exhibition Hall’s five sections, Blue Archive is set to take up the entirety of the East 4 Hall and a good chunk of East 5, the latter of which it shares with Azur Lane and games of different genres.  The West Exhibition Hall houses the West 1 and West 2 sections, the first of which will be occupied with VTuber-related doujinshi alongside TYPE-MOON. West 2 will also serve as home to VTuber-related goods, as well as general accessories.

West: VTubers!
They’re not even islands at this point. They’re continents.

While Azur Lane, Umamusume, and TYPE-MOON fanmade works are majorly popular as well, there is no denying the massive appeal of Blue Archive and VTubers. Although it hails from South Korea, Blue Archive was consciously designed to appeal to Japanese players and fans of otaku content, which is likely why Japan now accounts for more than 70% of the game’s revenue. On the other hand, the popularity of VTubers is mostly domestic, with talents from major agencies like hololive and Nijisanji growing influential enough to make or break the games they stream. As of lately, the popularity of VTubers has grown beyond the streaming scene, with talents like Usada Pekora being featured in Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding 2. Additionally, the sheer quantity of popular characters coming from Blue Archive and the VTuber industry are likely what make them such high-demand source material for fan-made doujinshi and merch.

Comiket 107 is set to take place on December 30-31, 2025 at Tokyo Big Sight, Japan.
