Amidst the rising trend of AI-generated art, Bandai has issued a statement warning consumers about images of anime figures and other fake products bearing the “Bandai” or “Bandai Spirits” logos and other registered trademarks. The statement seems to be in response to numerous inquiries from fans following an X post by the official Google Gemini App account.
While Bandai hasn’t formally denounced AI art, it tells those who might want to upload AI-generated images online “to exercise extreme caution.” The company asks AI-users to refrain from publicly posting images that can be mistaken for legitimate Bandai products and thus mislead consumers. Depending on the circumstances, the act could constitute copyright infringement or similar offenses.
As an example, one of the images in a post by the official Google Gemini App X account features a packaged figurine with a red square logo and white text on the box. Though the logo’s text itself is different, the sillhouete and layout could make it easily mistaken for the well-known “BANDAI” logo from afar.
To avoid becoming victims of possible fraud, Bandai encourages people to check its official webpage for legitimate information on products.
