Bandai Namco former employee arrested for workplace embezzlement of up to 600 million yen

A former employee of Bandai Namco Entertainment has been arrested on suspicion of workplace embezzlement, as reported by Mainichi Shimbun

According to investigators, the employee allegedly embezzled 54 million yen (about $350k) by stealing and reselling approximately 500 company-owned smartphones in the year 2020. The suspect was in charge of purchasing and managing mobile devices used by employees at Bandai Namco, and became subject to an internal investigation after a discrepancy in device storage records was discovered (Source: NHK).

The suspect was dismissed from Bandai Namco Entertainment as of December 20, 2022. However, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department is still investigating the case, as the embezzlement is thought to have gone on for longer. Bandai Namco’s internal investigation from January 2023 showed that the suspect had resold over 4400 company-owned devices between 2015 and 2022, illegally amassing over 600 million yen. It seems that the company filed a criminal complaint against the suspect, leading to the recent arrest.
