Armored Core 6’s veteran players are shooting down anyone trying to cheat or cheese their way up, no matter how overpowered they are

There are few things more annoying in online multiplayer than someone deliberately cheating or spamming annoying moves that ruin the point of the game. However, Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon’s leaderboard-topping players are so good that they are completely destroying those who are trying to cheaply “game” the system.

Armored Core 6 Fires of Rubicon mech battle

According to a report by Game*Spark, mech battler Armored Core VI has seen its fair share of players attempting to cheese their way to victory. Popular tactics used by such players include equipping the arm unit SG-027 ZIMMERMAN, which is a long-range but slow shotgun that fires blast shells, and the EARSHOT grenade cannon, which has a huge blast range but is tricky to handle. In combination with these heavy weapons, they use the Terminal Armor. When your Armored Core mech sustains critical AP damage, Terminal Armor activates a super powerful Pulse Armor shield that can absorb 20,000 damage and lasts for 5 seconds. This basically enables your crafty player to stay shielded (i.e. invincible) while blasting their opponents into oblivion with heavy fire.

Although such a load-out and playstyle are not technically cheating (no hacks are used), it is considered a “cheap” way to win, as the Armored Core crowd prides itself on technique. According to the aforementioned Game*Spark article, players at the top of Armored Core VI’s leaderboards have been going out of their way to bring down these small fry, vigilante-style. They do this by cleverly hiding and taking advantage of gaps in the spammers’almost invincible armor. It also apparently helps that such players do not usually possess a good understanding of basic fighting techniques, and just resort to their repetitive strategy of firing while shielding.

Seeing as FromSoftware is known for making games that are fiendishly difficult, like Darksouls and Elden Ring, it is perhaps not surprising that many top players of the most successful Armored Core game so far are also extremely capable and skilled.

Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon is available on PC (Steam), PS4/PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
