A rare game Japanese collectors have been buying for millions of yen just released on the Switch for $40 dollars
SNK Corporation just dropped two physical compilations of their Neo Geo games for the Nintendo Switch, titled ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 1 and ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 2. The two collections come with 10 games each, including beloved Fatal Fury, Metal Slug and King of Fighters titles.
Interestingly, ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 2 includes Neo Turf Masters – a game that’s right up there with Chibi Maruko-chan: Maruko Deluxe Quiz in terms of its ridiculously high collectors’ value.
Neo Turf Masters is a golf game released for the Neo Geo in 1996. It was developed by Metal Slug developer Nazca and published by SNK. Aside from being a well-made golf game with really pretty pixel-art graphics, Neo Turf Masters is known for its rarity, with second-hand Neo Geo cartridges being valued from 2.5 million yen to 3 million yen. In fact, just encountering the game’s cart on sale is considered a rare event.
The game has had several digital rereleases on other platforms since its release, but ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol 2. will be Neo Turf Masters’ first physical revival. So, those curious about the phantom game but not bent on possessing its elusive Neo Geo version can get their hands on it for under 6000 yen (under $40), along with a bunch of other retro SNK games.
ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 1 and ACA NEOGEO Selection Vol. 2 are available now for the Nintendo Switch. Multi-language versions can be purchased via PlayAsia.
