Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance to include over 270 demons and allow interaction
Atlus recently announced the release date for Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance, the definitive, multiplatform version of Shin Megami Tensei 5. The upcoming title is scheduled to come out on June 21 for the PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), PS4/PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Based on comments made by Atlus director Shigeo Komori and character designer Masayuki Doi, the new release will add a lot of content that will keep demon lovers busy.
Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance is the complete version of the 2021 Nintendo Switch-exclusive RPG Shin Megami Tensei 5. The rerelease will bring gameplay system and QOL improvements while also introducing a brand-new storyline, including a new map and locations, as well as new characters.
The new route, Canon of Vengeance, initially follows the original scenario, but introduces significant changes in the middle and latter sections of the story. According to the Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance Spotlight stream by Atlus, the new route will add about 80 hours of gameplay, increasing total play time to an average of 160 hours.
The stream also mentions a focus on adding demons and giving them a greater presence by introducing “the playful element of interaction” with ally demons. This sentiment is also expressed by Atlus director Shigeo Komori and character designer Masayuki Doi in a recent interview with Famitsu. Doi mentions that the amount of praise they received for the quality of the 3D demons in the original release and users’ requests for more demons were two factors that influenced Vengeance’s conceptualization.
The interview also reveals that Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance will include over 270 demons, including brand-new designs by Doi. This includes 4 female demons named the Qadištu, which seem to be central to the story’s theme of “revenge on the part of the oppressed.”
According to Komori, Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance was created by expanding on various elements of the original story and setting which had previously remained unexplored. The creators promise a “Megaten-like, dark and bitter” story with appealing characters and demons.
Shin Megami Tensei 5: Vengeance is scheduled to release on June 21 for the PC (Steam, Microsoft Store), PS4/PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
