Tekken 8 dev confirms that blocking a player will stop you from being matched with them
Tekken 8 director Kohei Ikeda recently addressed one small yet often discussed element of the game – the block function. Responding to a user on X (formerly Twitter) Ikeda explained that blocking another user in Tekken 8 will prevent you from being matched with them in ranked battles.
Tekken 8 lets you block other users. This is done by viewing an opponent’s profile after a match. From there, you can select options such as block and report. How the block function works has been open to different interpretations up until now, with players being unsure as to whether it prevents matching up with specific individuals or simply blocks communication between users.
Kohei Ikeda has confirmed that matching is prevented, although his comment that he is unable to “disclose all details” may indicate that there are some other aspects to how blocking works. Japanese users have been questioning this part of Ikeda’s statement, believing that a more transparent explanation is in order, as blocking is a sensitive matter.
On the other hand, knowing that there is a definitive way to protect yourself from so-called pluggers, hackers, and other unsportsmanlike opponents is good news. Going by Ikeda’s explanation, players can now rest assured that blocking a player’s profile will do the trick.
Tekken 8 is available for the PC (Steam), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
