Unicorn Overlord will be the most content-packed game in Vanillaware’s history
Atlus and Vanillaware’s tactical RPG Unicorn Overlord releases worldwide on March 8 for the PS4/PS5, Xbox Series X|S and the Nintendo Switch. Counting down the days until the highly anticipated launch, Vanillaware revealed a brand-new illustration of the game’s characters on February 19. This was followed by a comment on Unicorn Overlord’s impressive volume – the game is apparently the largest in the developer’s history.
Unicorn Overlord is a fantasy tactical RPG with overworld exploration and real-time battles. The story takes place on the war-stricken continent of Fevrith, where five nations coexist. The protagonist Alain is a “fallen prince” tasked with regaining his kingdom and leading his people to freedom after the revolt of the rogue General Valmore. Gameplay revolves around leading Alain around the expansive overworld and reclaiming and rebuilding towns, gathering and training allies and engaging in battle with foes. Unicorn Overlord will feature free party member customization, multiple difficulty levels and a PvP online mode.
The development of Unicorn Overlord has famously lasted over 10 years – as it was first conceived by Takafumi Noma in 2014. But, as the title’s programmer Onishi has revealed, it is also Vanillaware’s most ambitious title up to date in terms of content. Apart from its rich gameplay and story and impressive volume of hand-drawn assets, it has also been revealed that Unicorn Overlord will feature over 60 companion characters and over 60 classes of units that the player can freely combine in parties.
Unicorn Overlord is scheduled to launch on March 8 for the PS4/PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
