Play high-stake games with heinous convicts in Danganronpa-like suspense indie visual novel game
Japanese indie developer Zakurosuke has announced that Romp of Dump will release in Early Access on January 20. The game will launch for the PC (Steam) and will be available in English.
Romp of Dump is an animated suspense visual novel in which you “observe scum prisoners” and work on unraveling the truth about their crimes. The story takes place in 1992 in Dumpir, a “city of pleasure and immorality.” Your character is a death row inmate who has been falsely accused of serial murder and incarcerated at the Dumpir Prison, also known as “The Dump.” At the Dump, you communicate with heinous criminals and play card games with them.
The six prisoners you come in contact with have committed reprehensible acts such as murder and drug dealing. The visual novel includes four casino-style mini games such as Blackjack, during which you need to analyze the prisoners’ changes in expression and gestures in order to win.
Unsurprisingly, you play with stakes – with losers facing a penalty game. Your objective is to work at the inmates’ pride and get them to reveal episodes from their pasts, which you need to collect and piece together to find out the “bizarre” crimes they have committed. The Japanese scenario is 200,000 characters long, which makes for a significant volume in English as well.
Rump of Dump is rated 15+, containing indirect depictions of crimes, drug use, prostitution, child abuse, SA, etc. Please note that while the Steam store page’s English description includes the sentence “contains various sexual perversions including homosexuality,” this is simply what seems to be an unfortunate mistranslation, as the original Japanese text mentions “perversions” and “sexual orientations” as separate points.
Zakurosuke, the indie developer behind Romp of Dump, has a track record in creating games using Unity, the VN creation tool Utage (宴), and Live2D. They are currently also working on Primula, a visual novel about a father protecting his adoptive daughter. They started working on Romp of Dump in 2021, releasing the first demo version in April 2022. Since then, the game has gone through numerous updates, and the Early Access release is now right around the corner.
Romp of Dump will release in Early Access for free on January 20 for the PC (Steam).
