Like a Dragon funeral event lets fans offer flowers to deceased characters and see their spirits
The underworld vividly portrayed in Sega’s popular Like a Dragon games is a dangerous place, so it’s hardly a surprise that many characters have met untimely ends since the Yakuza series started back in 2005. What is surprising though is Sega’s latest promotional event – a memorial where you can pay your respects to those who have been killed off so far. Be warned that the event and its merchandise are full of spoilers for the series!
The event, entitled “Like A Dragon: The Fallen Men Exhibit” will be held at Parco department stores in Tokyo, Nagoya and Sapporo. Upon entering the exhibition, you will be given flowers that you can place before the portrait of your favorite deceased character. The display will include images of the characters while they were alive and of their dying moments, featuring their final lines.
The final section of the exhibit is a “graveyard area” that features an augmented reality feature where the deceased will appear if you point your smartphone at their memorials.
There will also be a selection of event-exclusive merchandise on sale. As well as more typical fare like T-shirts and tote bags, fans can even get acrylic stands shaped like Buddhist mortuary tablets inscribed with the name and lines of their favorite deceased character.
As the event is held in collaboration with Shoyeido, a Kyoto-based incense store with over 300 years of history, visitors to the event can buy a boxed set of 10 types of incense. Each incense is dedicated to a specific Like a Dragon character that was killed off.
