Nintendo’s new Super Mario Bros. Wonder short clip proves that Bowser is based
Nintendo released a new promotional short for Super Mario Bros. Wonder on October 11. The very unexpected interaction between Bowser and Peach shown in the video has caused waves in the fandom for its wholesomeness, and Bowser fans once again have undeniable proof that their fave “is a real one.” The freakier side of the fandom can also be seen having a field day in their own way.
In the latest promotional short, a smitten Bowser can be seen approaching Princess Peach, offering her a flower. The following moment, Peach transforms into her rather chunky Elephant form. In reaction to this, Bowser gives Elephant Peach a one-over, and excitedly pulls out a full bouquet of flowers to replace the single flower he offered previously. He then gazes at her excitedly from different angles. It seems that Bowser not only continues to love Peach even if she turns into an elephant, but actually appears to dig the look even more. He offers a master course on how to pass the “Would you still love me as a worm?” test.
Nintendo managed to subvert everyone’s expectations by avoiding the cliché of the transformation into a bigger/less attractive form causing a disgusted reaction, and the response has been overwhelming between Japanese and overseas fans alike. In the Japanese community, users can be agreeing in unison about the fact that Bowser is a real “ikemen” (masculine, hot gentleman) and praising his pure-hearted, hopeless romantic nature. Where different opinions arose was in whether Bowser simply loves Princess Peach the same regardless of her appearance, which is why he adjusted the number of flowers to her size, or if, perhaps, the elephant form made him especially excited because it made Peach non-human like himself.
Bowser is also being praised for his “love of BBW” and un-fatphobic nature that shows through his actions, and the list of his qualities goes on. Unsurprisingly, the whole ordeal has also been taken into freaky directions, with people attributing the wholesome interaction to Bowser being kinky, and some forecasting a new world opening for future fanart creators.
Users seem to be enjoying Nintendo’s recent relaxed and humorous approach to promoting their titles, expressing expectation for what’s to come.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder is scheduled for release on October 20 for the Nintendo Switch.
