Armored Core 6: Zimmerman shotguns are so strong they’re causing some moral turmoil
A certain shotgun in ARMORED CORE VI FIRES OF RUBICON, has been rising in popularity among players for its outstanding performances, increasingly becoming a go-to choice for many, but it also seems to be somewhat of a source of mixed feelings due to its sheer strength.
The Armored Core 6 system allows the player to build custom ACs by freely assembling external and internal parts, including armament. From Standard Rifles and large back-mounted Grenade Launchers to close-combat weapons such as Laser Blades, an array of armament options is available to choose from, allowing the player to adjust things to their needs and preferences.
Among them, the SG-2027 ZIMMERMAN Shotgun has been particularly on the rise in popularity lately, and its commanding presence has been making it both meme-worthy and mildly controversial.
As to why ZIMMERMAN is so popular – well, it’s simply devastatingly strong. The weapon deals significant damage and impact, with a more than reasonable range and number of rounds. It proves beautifully compatible with the game’s mechanic of aiming to quickly inflict massive damage to your opponent after getting them to stagger, which makes it a favorite choice for regular missions, boss battles and PvP for many.
Perhaps due to these outstanding performances, the Zimmerman can be seen replacing all other weapons in the game, just as it has replaced Swords, Bows and Axes in the above famous Lord of the Rings scene. Players seem to be showing up to PvPs confidently, decked out with “dual Zimms”, only to have their look stolen by everyone else participating. This situation is bound to repeat itself as everyone arrives at the mindset that there’s no problem that two Zimmermans can’t solve.
Someone has even created an anthropomorphic character of the Zimmerman, called Zimmy-chan, who appears to be a ‘tsundere’ anime girl, wearing twin tails to represent dual Zimmermans. It was only a matter of time.
On the other hand, the Zimmerman has inevitably also earned the reputation of a meta weapon, a forbidden fruit of sorts, and wielding 4 shotguns in particular is like a sealed backdoor one must not access. Some expressed discontent with the liberal use of the overpowered shotguns in multiplayer mode, which many seem to relate to, and players can be seen struggling to figure out ways how to overcome the Zimmerman-wielders through other means, finding them to be somewhat of a killjoy when it comes to PvP combat. Conversely, others can be seen “going over to the dark side” after trying out the gear and realizing its power.

The answer is to fight long range.
There is no long range in AC6.
