Blue Protocol players go buck naked, sacrificing their characters’ dignity for FPS
Blue Protocol players have discovered that discarding their character’s clothing and making them naked helps stabilize the game’s frame rate, which has led to a noticeable number of players going around naked in the world.
Blue Protocol is an online action RPG by PROJECT SKY BLUE, a project of BANDAI NAMCO Online and Bandai Namco Studios. The game is set in a vast and detailed fantasy world and allows for dynamic battles and a high level of character customization.
The game went online on June 14, experiencing a bit of a bumpy release, with server load issues arising (Related article). Though major issues were resolved, many players continued to report that the game “feels heavy” and that the frame rate often drops, particularly in busy environments such as the city of Asterliese.
This may be what led some players to take drastic measures– in order to decrease PC load and stabilize the frame rate of the game, players started taking off all their clothes and challenging the game in nothing but their default undies.
A Tweet explaining these circumstances with an attached screenshot of multiple naked players in battle has gone viral, reaching over seven thousand RTs at the time of writing. Most obviously find the phenomenon amusing, but a significant number of users expressed relief as they finally understood why they had been seeing so many naked players in-game recently. Apparently, it had not been a rare sight at all.
On a side note, when asked about details regarding how the frame rate dip works, the original poster of the tweet explaining the phenomenon admitted to having no idea how it works, explaining that they only partook in the nudity for the sake of their other party members who benefit from being naked in battle.
Players also didn’t miss the chance to poke fun at the developers, noting that a game’s frame rate dropping due to clothes is “so Bandai-like.”
One can’t help but remember a similar unfortunate case, when players improved the frame rate and performance problems of Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin by using a mod that makes all the characters bald to reduce load.
