Users are stupefied by this calculator that can run even Honkai Impact 3rd

A tweet showing screenshots of people running Honkai Impact 3rd on a certain Chinese android calculator has gone viral among Japanese users, with people expressing shock and confusion as to how and why such a high-spec calculator was made. The tweet has since been retweeted over 4000 times.

Tweet translation: A regular calculator that’s equipped with android for some reason. I already knew about its existence from this article, but seeing it running games and stuff really makes me question the original intent of whoever made it

The device in question is the Chinese “GHLBD calculator” equipped with a high spec tablet chip, touch screen and Android 9.0. According to a review by CNX Software, it is a simple, non-scientific calculator that also features a calendar, notepad, history of calculation, Wi-Fi and other functions. On the other hand, though the calculator runs Android, the default Android launcher seems to have been disabled, which goes to say that the calculator was not originally intended to be used for anything more complex.

However, this has obviously not stopped people from bypassing the limitations and finding other exciting uses for the calculator, with Chinese tech lovers making it somewhat of a fad to purchase the (previously) cheap calculator and find ways to emulate various games, stream videos and the like.

But what really struck Japanese users on Twitter was the calculator having enough capacity to run Honkai Impact 3rd, a large 3D game with sophisticated graphics, with most expressing disbelief at the fact and some finding themselves wanting the gadget.

Tweet translation: In its default state it can only be used as a simple calculator without an Android launcher, so a significant amount of hacking is required to get to this point.

Users were also quick to start thinking of theories to explain the glaring gap between the level of the hardware and software used for the calculator, with some suggesting it might have been designed for cheating on exams, with it being able to access the internet and open pdf files. Others sided with the more widely accepted theory of it being reverse engineered based on availability of cheap parts. In either case, the sight of Honkai Impact 3rd being run on the small screen of a calculator is undoubtedly what left the strongest impression on all.
