Square Enix asks fans which Team Asano remake/remaster should be next

Square Enix is holding a survey in Japan regarding future titles by Team Asano. One of the questions asks users which titles they would like Team Asano to remake or remaster.

Team Asano is the Square Enix development team behind titles like Octopath Traveler and Triangle Strategy, which they co-developed with Acquire and Artdink, respectively. A number of their games have made use of the HD-2D graphical aesthetic, which fuses nostalgic pixel graphics with modern 3DCG visual effects.

The survey asks a number of questions that touch on both past Team Asano games and those currently in development. These include which Team Asano titles you have played, whether you intend to purchase Octopath Traveler II, and whether you are excited for the HD-2D remake of Dragon Quest III.

There are also questions that ask users about their hopes for the future of Team Asano. This includes what genres they would like to play, which remakes or remasters they want the team to develop, and anything else that they would like to see from Team Asano in the future.

The question regarding remakes and remasters is not limited to Square Enix titles, and users are free to suggest games from other companies. The survey has become quite the hot topic on internet, including places like ResetEra, with gamers all over voicing their desire for remakes of titles such as Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG, and more.

Live A Live

Team Asano previously developed a remake of Live A Live that was released in July 2022. This title was the result of a “command” from the president of Square Enix, Yosuke Matsuda, who requested that they make more use of the HD-2D technology (related article). Live A Live was then chosen from a list of other candidates to receive the HD-2D treatment. It’s possible that the results gathered from this new survey will become a factor in deciding the next HD-2D remake or remaster that is developed.

The Team Asano survey is available for users registered to the Japanese Square Enix Members site and is available until 23:59 on February 8 (JST). It should be noted that the survey is intended for those living in Japan and the prizes that can be won through participating will only be shipped within the country.
