Anime song singer Ichiro Mizuki has passed away



Ichiro Mizuki, a Japanese singer best known for his work on anime songs, passed away on December 6 due to lung cancer. He was 74 years old.

Mizuki was known as the man behind the theme songs of countless anime series, including Mazinger Z. He made his debut in the 60s and, over many decades, went on to create songs for a multitude of different anime and tokusatsu series. Mizuki made frequent television appearances, and his distinct voice and personality captured the hearts of many.

Mizuki was also involved in the game industry as a voice actor. He provided the voice of Keisar Ephes in Daisanji Super Robot Taisen Alpha Shyuuen no Ginga e (The 3rd Super Robot Wars Alpha: To the End of the Galaxy) and provided the title screen voice-over for Super Robot Taisen Z (Super Robot Wars Z). Mizuki was an avid gamer too, becoming enthralled by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and sharing on Twitter how he had played it for thousands of hours and collected 999 Giant Ancient Cores.

According to the statement released by his company, Mizuki passed away due to lung cancer at 6:50 p.m. on December 6. He was diagnosed with lung cancer in April 2021 and spent time in and out of hospital as he received treatment. After battling the disease for over one year and seven months, he passed away while in hospital. Mizuki had planned to continue performing for the rest of his life and recently appeared at a live event on November 27.

The news of Mizuki’s passing has been met with an outpouring of condolences from many fans and celebrities on social media. Former producer and scenario writer for the Super Robot Wars series Takanobu Terada also expressed his condolences on Twitter.
