Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: A peculiar bug shows a copy of your Pokémon when it’s evolving

An odd bug has been reported in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet where a copy of an evolving Pokémon is displayed during the evolution cutscene. Please be aware that this article contains spoilers for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet introduce a lot of new elements to the series. The main story is divided across three paths, with one of them being the Path of Legends. On this path, players battle the giant Titan Pokémondotted about the Paldea region in order to gather rare plants called Herba Mystica with Arven, one of the game’s main characters.

While there are plenty of new elements, much of the classic Pokémon gameplay is alive and well. This includes Pokémonevolutions. From leveling, to a variety of different conditions, Pokémonwill evolve. This not only changes their appearance, but their abilities and stats as well. It’s a system that rewards players for training their beloved Pokémon to become stronger.

However, a strange bug pertaining to evolution has been reported in the game. We can see it here in this video posted to Twitter by gaming YouTuber Kesopotato. The video has been grabbing attention on social media and was taken from Kesopotato’s livestream on November 18.

A shocking Sprigatito evolution scene.

The above video shows a Sprigatito large on screen. Just when you think it’s going to evolve, the camera shifts focus to another Sprigatito. Kesopotato was quick to notice the oddity, pointing out that there were two of them. But amid the confusion, the Sprigatito on the left evolved into a Floragato as if nothing was amiss.

What’s concerning here is the Sprigatito on the right that’s just sitting there with a blank stare. Kesopotato was also perplexed and exclaimed, “Whose Sprigatito is this!?” The important moment for both trainer and Pokémon came to a close with the question behind the second Sprigatito left unanswered.

This strange phenomenon has also been reported by other players. Each case involves an unrelated copy of a Pokémon standing around until the camera pans to the evolving Pokémon. These scenes of unrelated Pokémon just kind of hanging out on camera have been causing players both confusion and laughter.

There was a bug where some Marill I don’t know evolved, and I almost died laughing.

All of these cases occurred when a Pokémon was set to evolve after battling a Titan. When Titan Pokémon are defeated, a little scene plays out where the Pokémon that battled against it faces toward the camera with a look of delight. It’s likely that something about these two events coinciding is causing two models of the same Pokémon to appear.

Fortunately, Kesopotato didn’t run into any problems on their livestream after the mysterious Sprigatito appeared. As far as we can tell, there haven’t been any reports of the bug causing serious problems, so it looks like there’s no need to worry if you have a Pokémon that’s about to evolve after battling a Titan. That said, the Titans are pretty tough. Regardless of whether there’s a bug or not, it might be best to evolve any Pokémon that are about to anyway before taking them on.
