Heaven Burns Red limited-time café to open in Tokyo/Osaka

Heaven Burns Red-themed cafés will open in Japan (Tokyo and Osaka) for a limited period between May 19 and July 3. The café’s menu will feature items themed after Heaven Burns Red, along with knife-cut noodles, which is mentioned in the game multiple times as part of a running joke.

One of the items on the menu mimics the game’s dialogue system, where you combine multiple words to come up with your line. In this case, you would simply choose from 3×3 options of food items to make an order. For example, you can mix and match pizza slices with raw fish/salad, or Omurice (Omelette Rice) with penne pasta. Take-out is available for some of the items.

Original merchandise will be sold at the café (and online) as well, including tin badges, acrylic coasters, acrylic stands, stickers, a tote bag, and a mug. More information about the Heaven Burns Red Cafe, including the location and reservation guide, can be found here.

Heaven Burns Red is a free-to-play RPG that launched this February in Japan for iOS and Android. It’s being developed and operated by Wright Flyer Studios (Afterlost, Another Eden: The Cat Beyond Time and Space) and key figures include Visual Arts’ Jun Maeda (Moon, Air, Clannad), who is responsible for the main scenario and music production.

In the game’s world, humanity is on the verge of extinction due to a series of attacks by mysterious extraterrestrial beings called Cancer. Conventional weapons aren’t effective against them, and the population of Japan has plummeted from 120 million to 8 million. In the midst of this crisis, a new type of weapon called Seraph was invented to counter the threat.

As humanity’s last hope, girls with the ability to control Seraphs are being gathered at a military base located inside a school campus to train and fight. The story progresses as girls go through training sessions inside the campus and missions outside the campus, while building chemistry between other girls and units. You get to explore each character’s agenda and personal struggles as you progress through the story.

The game is filled with intentionally cringy Japanese humor and comedic banter between the characters while also providing some tear-inducing moments. There are 3 chapters available at the moment, and the combat can be quite challenging towards the end.

As mentioned earlier, some of the jokes, lines, and characters from the game are used as concepts for the cafe’s menu, so the fans will likely enjoy going there when it opens next week.
