NieR: Automata anime adaptation officially announced

Aniplex and Square Enix has officially announced that NieR: Automata is getting a TV anime adaptation. The original scenario writer Yoko Taro and Square Enix will supervise the scenario. Not much else has been announced, but you can check out the teaser trailer below:

NieR: Automata came out in 2017 as a sequel to the action RPG Nier, produced by Square Enix and developed by PlatinumGames. It went on to become a critically acclaimed title with over 6 million units sold worldwide. The game takes place thousands of years after the events of the first game, where a proxy war between human-made androids and alien-made machines is taking place. You play as members of the YoRHa forces, including 2B and 9S, to work towards retaking the Earth.

The announcement was made on February 23, which marks the 5th anniversary of the game’s launch. There had been novels and stage plays that share the same universe, but an anime adaptation is a first. It’ll be interesting to see whether the story will remain the same as the original or deviate from the set course.

The official website of the anime series can be found here. An official Twitter account has opened as well.
