Japanese visual novel developer Laplacian has announced that Cyanotype Daydream -The Girl Who Dreamed the World- is coming to Steam on February 10. The game will be available for 4,800 yen (around $42) and support English, Japanese, and Simplified Chinese.
Cyanotype Daydream -The Girl Who Dreamed the World- first launched in September of 2020 as an adult visual novel in Japan. The game takes place in a world where mankind can no longer live on the surface of the earth. The protagonist Kaito participated in an experiment at a research facility that seeks to create a habitable environment for humanity. Kaito has memory loss and was already inside the facility when he came to, so he doesn’t know the purpose of the experiment or how he got there.
However, when Izumo, an android girl, tells him that Kaito had agreed to participate in the experiment before he lost his memory, he decides to cooperate. Kaito immerses himself in three dream worlds in hopes of reaching the end of each dream.
Each dream is set in a different time period and features different characters. The order of the dreams is randomly selected. CASE-1 follows the story of a male professor and a female student, the daughter of “the very same man who snuffed the candle of his dreams.” CASE-2 follows a young and enslaved Shakespeare who must write a play to keep the troupe of a noble named Olivia Berry alive. In CASE-3, a school dropout living in a broken-down camper car meets a teacher-in-training and falls in love with her. And “After experiencing these stories and bidding ‘farewell’ to them, the stories converge in the truth of one girl.”
Laplacian is a Bishoujo game brand in Japan that has released multiple 18+ visual novels in the past. Cyanotype Daydream was released in Japan as an 18+ game as well, but Laplacian is moving away from 18+ games to make all-ages games. They made alterations for the Steam version to release it as an all-ages game, and there won’t be an 18+ patch either.
Laplacian explained on the official website that some scenes have been cut, but the essence of the story remains the same. “Furthermore, the amount of additional new content far exceeds what was cut.” You can check the list of added content from the link above, and it’s quite long. “I think it’s better to think of this as a brand new remake of Cyanotype Daydream rather than a port/localization of the original.”
Additionally, changes were made to the outfit of Rin, one of the female characters. She no longer wears a school uniform “to make certain the game would pass Steam’s review.” But they point out that the reason they chose the uniform for Rin in the first place “was as a bit of fanservice for those loyal fans who have been with us since the beginning,” and the change won’t impact the story.
