Square Enix has announced the release date for their free-to-play RPG Bravely Default Brilliant Lights. It is set to start its service for iOS and Android on January 27 in Japan. A digital play manual was published on the official website ahead of launch, which explains the game’s setting, characters, character progression system, battle system, and glossary.
The Bravely series began with Bravely Default which was released in October 2012. The latest installment, Bravely Default II, launched in February 2021 for the Nintendo Switch. The year 2022 marks the 10th anniversary of the series, and Bravely Default Brilliant Lights is being developed to commemorate the anniversary.
The series’ signature “Brave & Default” system and the various combinations of jobs and abilities have been optimized for smartphones. It is said to be a “character gatcha-less” single-player RPG that anyone can enjoy where many characters from the series come together as playable characters.
The world of Bravely Default Brilliant Lights is divided into three areas: Bravely Default’s Luxendarc, Bravely Default II’s Excillant, and a brand-new continent called Vermelho. The adventure begins in a city called Brass, where alchemy is flourishing. It is the only land blessed with water and greenery in the vast wasteland of Vermelho.
One day, a mysterious ball of light emanated from a pyramid near Brass, and soon after, people from the land of Luxendarc and Excillant began to visit the city. This incident is likely what caused characters from previous titles to come to Vermelho.
Bravely Default Brilliant Lights is set to start its service for iOS and Android on January 27 in Japan.
