Taito and Survios have announced that the PS4/PS5 version of Puzzle Bobble 3D: Vacation Odyssey will launch on October 5. It will be a cross-buy title, so buying the PS4 version will grant you the PS5 version at no additional cost. The game will also be playable on PlayStation VR.
This is the latest game in Taito’s popular Puzzle Bobble series, and it celebrates the 35th anniversary of the main character, Bub. The Oculus Quest version of the game (Puzzle Bobble VR: Vacation Odyssey) has been out since May 20 of this year, and now it will be released on the PlayStation platform with improved graphics. The game was developed by American game studio Survios, that has previously worked on various VR projects.
Puzzle Bobble is known as a 2D puzzle game series in which you shoot bubbles from the bottom of the screen to erase the bubbles of various colors that are being pushed down from above. The objective is to clear the bubbles by connecting three or more bubbles of the same color.
In Puzzle Bobble 3D: Vacation Odyssey, the field has been transformed into 3D space. The bubbles are three-dimensional as well. Players will jump into the world of Puzzle Bobble and use the special Bubble Cannon to aim, shoot, and break the bubbles. There are power-ups such as Paintbrush which lets you choose the color of the next bubble you shoot, Spin Orb that lets you spin a group of bubbles, and Chili Bomb that lets you break multiple bubbles at once. The game can be played in first-person mode while using PS VR, and in third-person mode when playing on a regular TV/monitor.
Three modes are included in the game: Story Mode, endless Infinite Mode, and online Duel Mode. There are 100 puzzles in Story Mode, and you must clear the bubbles of various arrangements. Each stage has a 3-star clear rating. In Infinite Mode, players aim for a high score by breaking the bubbles that appear one after another. Keep breaking the bubbles to avoid being sucked into the portal in the sky.
The online Duel Mode is a one-on-one PvP in which you can send bubbles to your opponent and interfere by breaking a certain amount of bubbles at once. Dual Mode supports matches across PS4, PS5, and PS VR.
