Japanese company Imagineer Co. Ltd. announced on July 1 the release window for a Joy-Con Attachment designed specially for the rhythmic boxing game Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise on Nintendo Switch.

Manufactured by peripheral maker HORI, the controller accessory is officially licensed by Nintendo and is due to arrive in stores in September. Preorders are live now and will set you back 2280 yen (around US$20).

The Joy-Con Attachment is a pair of peripherals which fastens the hand-held Joy-Cons to the player’s hands. The clear protective cover is made of polycarbonate, and once affixed to the Joy-Cons, you slip your hands through the hand belts and fasten with the harness. The belt is freely adjustable for different hand sizes. With the handgrips secured, you will be comforted to know there is no chance of you dropping your controllers accidentally.

Incidentally, should your workout prove too taxing, you can also grab a towel and wipe off your sweat during a Fitness Boxing 2 workout because the Joy-Con Attachment frees your fingers from having to grasp the controllers. The protective covers keep your Joy-Cons from sweat and grime, and can be detached if the fabric hand belts require washing.

Moreover, Joy-Cons can be charged with the Attachment left on (though the wrist straps need to come off) via the Switch’s slider rail, which looks to be a convenience to any Fitness Boxing 2 enthusiasts.

Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise is a boxing exercise video game released on Nintendo Switch in 2020. It’s an exergame (a portmanteau of exercise and game) aimed at health maintenance, weight loss, and physical training through the fun of playing rhythm games.

The workouts in the Fitness Boxing series are modeled after existing boxing programs designed by the General Incorporated Association of Fit Boxing Japan, a move that brought its first installment massive attention for its successful integration of genuine exercises into a video game. To date, the series has sold a total of 1.7 million copies as of May this year.

In the game, you train under the guidance of the instructor character of your choosing, learning movements like ducking and dodging as you are asked to strike a variety of punches. The wrist straps offer some security, but with this peripheral attachment, punching air with your Joy-Cons has never been easier.

Joy-Con Attachment for Nintendo Switch for Fitness Boxing series goes on sale in September this year. It is priced at 2280 yen (around US$20) and preorders began on July 1. Fitness Boxing 2: Rhythm & Exercise for Nintendo Switch is in stores now.
