NieR Automata inspired experimental RPG HYPERxFANTASY blends deep storytelling, tense sword combat, and high player freedom with striking futuristic visuals
Indie developer ONYXPRISM’s upcoming story and choice-driven RPG HYPERxFANTASY is scheduled to be released in the second quarter of 2025. The game will be playable on PC (Steam) in English, with plans to make it available on GOG and Nintendo Switch later on.
In HYPERxFANTASY, you will explore a brutalist dystopia with the aim of saving people’s souls by guiding them into a digital afterlife. Your actions and dialogue choices will influence which of the game’s branching story paths you end up taking as you journey through a strange near-future world where the real and the digital intersect. The game aims to deliver an impactful, emotional experience where the high degree of player freedom has a big effect on the story and the fate of the characters.
HYPERxFANTASY also promises to switch between different gameplay experiences in unusual ways; blending tense sword-based combat, high-velocity gliding, and even rhythm-based story sections designed to add emotion to the narrative.
Following the game’s Steam page launch last month, the developers have been broadcasting demo gameplay on the Community Hub. This showcases how the slick, futuristic character designs stand out against the vast, mono-colored environments- offering a glimpse of a desolate but intriguing cyberpunk future.
According to the developers, the game takes its visual inspiration from movies like Drive, The Neon Demon and Bladerunner 2049. With its exploration of emotional and philosophical topics like existence, identity and free will in a technologically advanced world, HYPERxFANTASY’s emotional journey is likely to appeal to fans of games like Firewatch, Journey, as well as the introspective sci-fi of NieR: Automata and Neon Genesis Evangelion.
HYPERxFANTASY is scheduled to be released for PC (Steam) in the second quarter of 2025 (tentative). A GOG release of the PC version is also planned, as is a Nintendo Switch version.
