Blue Protocol: Star Resonance developers apologize after Granblue Fantasy music accidentally ends up in the game

Blue Protocol: Star Resonance developer Shanghai Bokura Network Technology posted an apology on April 2 acknowledging the issue.

A few days ago, posts pointing out similarities between a music track used in Shanghai Bokura Network Technology’s Blue Protocol: Star Resonance and Cygames’s Granblue Fantasy started gaining traction on X, with some claiming that the former ripped off one of the latter’s songs. Shanghai Bokura Network Technology has since acknowledged the issue and is prioritizing the song’s removal from the MMORPG.

In an apology published on April 2, the developers said:

Thank you very much for your continued support of this game. We have discovered that, due to an oversight during the development phase, a BGM track used in the Goblin Lair and Dark Mist Fortress dungeons was implemented as-is, despite the fact that it was copyrighted material that should have been replaced prior to the official release.

This issue stems from a serious management failure and insufficient verification during the development process, and we sincerely apologize for the significant inconvenience caused to our users and all relevant parties. We are currently treating the replacement of the BGM in question as our top priority and are working urgently to rectify the issue; we plan to complete the fix in tomorrow’s update. Furthermore, until the fix is complete, we will temporarily suspend access to the relevant dungeons.

Following the discovery of this issue, we conducted an emergency inspection of all audio resources; however, no similar issues were identified, and we have confirmed that this problem is limited to the aforementioned audio files.

We take this matter very seriously and will review our management systems and verification procedures to prevent recurrence. Once again, we would like to offer our sincere apologies for the significant inconvenience caused to all adventurers and the copyright holders due to this serious oversight.

While the official apology did not delve into the specifics, the Granblue Fantasy song that was used without permission is “Dahli Island” – a track that plays while exploring the locale of the same name. The song is also featured in 2024’s Granblue Fantasy: Relink, albeit with a slightly different arrangement.

According to Blue Protocol: Star Resonance players, the Dahli Island track plays while you are in the Goblin Lair, Dark Mist Fortress, and Andra Underground Mines dungeons, all of which were present in the game when it released on October 9, 2025. Considering the track’s distinct intro and the popularity of Granblue Fantasy, it’s surprising that the issue did not surface earlier.

Some of the responses to the apology question the developers’ countermeasures, as the blocked off dungeons seem to still play the unauthorized track when you approach them. Others say that the act of using another studio’s track, even as a placeholder, is unthinkable, and are critical of Shanghai Bokura Network Technology’s lax development practices.

Blue Protocol: Star Resonance is available on Windows (Steam), iOS, and Android.
