SaGa series artist Satoshi Kuramochi leaves Square Enix 

Satoshi Kuramochi, lead artist on 2018’s SaGa: Scarlet Grace and lead character artist on 2024’s SaGa: Emerald Beyond, has left Square Enix.

Satoshi Kuramochi, a former artist at Square Enix, announced that he left the company as of February 2026. Known for his work on the SaGa franchise, Kuramochi expressed his gratitude for having contributed illustrations to such memorable games, and mentioned that he will continue his work as an artist.

I, Satoshi Kuramochi, have left Square Enix as of the end of February 2026. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to create so many illustrations. I am also truly grateful to all my fans for their support. I will continue to work as an illustrator, so I look forward to your continued support.  

Kuramochi served as one of the lead artists on 2018’s SaGa: Scarlet Grace and was the lead character artist on 2024’s SaGa: Emerald Beyond. Outside of SaGa, he worked on the background designs for World of Final Fantasy and its expanded version, World of Final Fantasy Maxima. Some of his final works at Square Enix were for the recently released mobile game, Dissidia Duellum Final Fantasy. 

Kuramochi’s departure from Square Enix has fans thanking him for his contributions, with some showcasing hand-drawn Kuramochi pieces they own and treasure as heirlooms. To show his gratitude, Kuramochi personally thanked several of his fans for their support and promised to do his best moving forward.
