Fate Extra/Record delayed again. Bandai Namco Entertainment will no longer be the publisher

Fate/Extra Record has been postponed for the second time. Bandai Namco Entertainment will be cancelling pre-orders on all platforms.

The official Fate/Extra Record X account announced on March 16 that distribution of the game through Bandai Namco Entertainment will be cancelled across all planned platforms. The title, a remake of the 2010 turn-based RPG Fate/Extra, was scheduled to release on Steam, PS and Switch in Spring 2026.

Bandai Namco Entertainment does not go into detail about the decision. The publisher apologized for the inconvenience and announced that all pre-orders will be cancelled, with customers receiving full refunds for any payments already made.

Developer Type-Moon Studio BB (Notes Co. Ltd.) also made a separate announcement, where it clarified that work on Fate Extra/Record itself has not been cancelled. Regarding publishing, the company commented: “Following mutual discussion, Notes and Bandai Namco Entertainment decided to reassess the project, including making changes to the development structure. Consequently, we have decided to change the distributor going forward.”

While development of Fate Extra/Record is continuing as planned, the release date has been postponed due to these changes. The studio will announce a new release date and publisher as soon as they are decided. This is Fate Extra/Record’s second delay, as the title was initially announced for a 2025 release. At the time, Type-Moon decided it needed more time to raise the game’s quality and value as a remake. The remake project is being helmed by Kazuya Niino, who served as producer for the original game.
