Monster Hunter fans in Japan relieved at rare update from Rise director Yasunori Ichinose, beg him to make the next entry

Monster Hunter Rise director Yasunori Ichinose graced fans with a long-awaited update, putting concerns about his departure from Capcom to rest.

Though the Japanese Monster Hunter Rise official X account constantly posts updates about the game and other titles in the series, it has been quite some time since director Yasunori Ichinose last graced fans with an update of his own. After a long absence, his latest post from February 19 confirmed he is alive, well, and still part of the Monster Hunter team. Due to his prolonged radio silence, there have been rumors circulating that he left Capcom. Although baseless, they seem to have spread enough for some Japanese fans to feel genuinely concerned.

Post translation:
Ichinose here, the director of Monster Hunter Rise. It’s been a while. To everyone supporting us, thank you so much for all the chocolates, fan letters, illustrations, and everything else this year. The entire development team is filled with gratitude. As for items addressed to the characters of Kamura Village and Elgado Outpost (the main hub areas for Monster Hunter Rise and its Sunbreak expansion, respectively), our postman Senri is working hard to deliver them, isn’t he?

Though Ichinose did not divulge any Monster Hunter-related news, his mere presence online was enough to bring joy to fans. Many expressed relief that the rumors of his departure from Capcom turned out to be false, as well as their continued love for his contributions to the series.

There was also a fair share of requests, with many asking Ichinose to take charge of Monster Hunter’s next installment while calling him “the series’ only hope,” likely in light of Monster Hunter Wilds’ rocky reception. Many comments also asked him to port Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak and Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate (both games in which he served as director) to the Nintendo Switch 2. Only time will tell what Ichinose is cooking, but for the time being, it’s good to see that he’s as devoted as ever to the franchise.
