Ex-Capcom developers’ PvP mobile game Outrankers to end services after just three months

Developed by Street Fighter 2 producer Yoshiki Okamoto alongside other ex-Capcom names, Outrankers will end service on February 27.

Deluxe Games announced on January 26 that it will be sunsetting its 3v3v3 action title Outrankers. The game will be playable until February 27 at 2 pm JST, whereupon online services will be fully terminated.

According to the official announcement, while Outrankers was made with the goal of “reimagining competitive gaming,” the game’s current live-service model made it difficult for the devs and publishers to meet the standards that players expected. They concluded by apologizing to players and thanking them for their time with the game.

Following the announcement, sales of Paid Diamonds and Premium Pass purchases in the in-game store have been suspended (Diamonds earned or purchased before the store closure can still be used). Any Paid Diamonds in users’ accounts after the Outrankers’ online service termination can be refunded, though players will need to use the app to submit a request.

Initially teased years ago, Outrankers was officially announced in July 2025 via game designer Yoshiki Okamoto’s YouTube channel. Aside from Okamoto, several ex-Capcom developers like Noritaka Funamizu (Super Street Fighter II, Street Fighter Alpha: Warriors’ Dreams), and Akira Nishitani (Street Fighter II, Final Fight), as well as renowned composers Yoko Shimomura (Street Fighter II, Kingdom Hearts series) and Tetsuya Komuro (Street Fighter II: The Animated Movie) lent their talents to the project.

Following a beta test, Outrankers was released on November 6, 2025. However, on January 13, Deluxe Games parent company Cave reported that the game was incurring massive losses and announced that they were considering retiring the title early.

Outrankers is set to shut down on February 27 at 2 PM JST.
