Granblue Fantasy Versus to scale down online features

From April 21, Granblue Fantasy Versus's online features will be scaled down, with Ranked Matches being replaced with a Casual Match mode.

After serving fighting game aficionados since its launch in 2020, Granblue Fantasy Versus will be downscaling its online features starting April 21 at 2 AM UTC. While some features will still be available in a limited capacity, others (such as the sweaty Ranked Matches mode) will be shutting down permanently.

Here are the features that will be shutting down after the planned downscaling:

  • Journal (specifically for uploading and downloading replays)
  • Ranked Matches (will be changed to “Casual Match”)
  • Online Lobby
  • Rankings
  • Customize Menu (specifically for player profiles)

On a related note, serial codes that were bundled with Granblue Fantasy Versus or its DLC that are meant for the Granblue Fantasy mobile game can no longer be accessed, as the Serial Codes option in the main menu will be removed after downscaling. While there is no confirmation if these codes will work with the upcoming global version of Granblue Fantasy mobile, you can still try them provided you copied them beforehand.

Save for the aforementioned changes, all of Granblue Fantasy Versus’ other modes should work as intended. The Journal’s Gallery and Glossary are still accessible, as are all of the offline game modes, including RPG mode’s solo play and online backup request options, Versus mode, Arcade mode, Training mode, Mission Training, and Room Matches. Regarding Room Matches, only the following features will be unavailable: changes to rank and Versus rank, Replays, and the ability to view others’ profiles.

For achievement hunters, take note that three trophies, namely “Now the Real Fight Begins!”, “Hot Enough for You?” and “Platinum Sky” will be unobtainable once downscaling has been completed, due to the removal of their associated features.

While it is sad to see the removal of Granblue Fantasy Versus’ most important features, this downscaling is likely so that the devs at Arc System Works can focus their efforts on its sequel, Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising. Versus: Rising, which was released in 2023, has been met with critical acclaim and is on the verge of completing its second character pass with the upcoming release of Ilsa on February 10.
