During the Granblue Fantasy Fes 2025 livestream held on December 28, Cygames announced that a Steam version of the long-running JRPG is in development. Granblue Fantasy is set to launch on the platform globally on March 10, 2026.
Released back in 2014 in Japan for iOS, Android and web browsers, Granblue Fantasy is a highly popular free-to-play RPG that has since spawned a whole multimedia franchise, including anime and manga adaptations, the console fighting game Granblue Fantasy Versus: Rising, and the 3D action RPG Granblue Fantasy: Relink. Aside from its turn-based combat system, co-op raids and fully voiced stories, a big draw of Granblue Fantasy are some of the names behind it. Final Fantasy composer Nobuo Uematsu is credited on the game’s soundtrack, and it also boasts the work of art director Hideo Minaba (known for his involvement in Final Fantasy V, VI, IX and XII).
While Granblue Fantasy already has an English language patch available (released in 2016), the game never got a Western launch, which made it somewhat tricky to access for players outside of Japan. This makes the newly announced Steam version a pretty big deal. According to Cygames, the new version of Granblue Fantasy has been reworked into a 16:9 ratio layout, replacing the vertical orientation of the game’s mobile and browser versions.

Interestingly, while supporting both English and Japanese, the Steam release will not be available to players located in Japan. Another important thing to note is that if you’re already playing the mobile or browser versions of the game, you won’t be able to link your accounts or transfer any data. In other words, you can only start a new game.

Granblue Fantasy is available for iOS, Android and browsers. The Steam version launches March 10, 2026.
