Japan Stigmatized Property, a game about monitoring real-life “haunted” Japanese properties, is getting a sequel

The sequel inherits the spooky anomaly spotting gameplay loop from the original game, with new stigmatized properties to monitor.

Following the success of Japan Stigmatized Property, Loxarc has announced a sequel. Aptly titled Japan Stigmatized Property 2, the new title inherits the original’s gameplay loop of monitoring security camera footage and reporting any anomalies you find.

As with the first game, Japan Stigmatized Property 2 puts you in the shoes of a surveillance officer. Four new real-life properties (levels) will have you switching between regular camera footage and night vision to scour every dark corner for randomized anomalies. These come in the form of moving furniture, disappearing or reappearing objects, malevolent spirits, and the like. Several scares are based on Japanese urban legends, giving the game a unique feel. While most of these scares are created by the developers, some phenomena include AI-generated content, according to the game’s Steam store page

Spot enough anomalies and maintain surveillance until 5 a.m., and you will complete a level. Fail to spot enough of them or call out too many false reports, and you will lose the level instead. Each of Japan Stigmatized Property 2’s levels will feature a Standard and Special Assignment difficulty mode.

Property Name: Hotel Céline

According to the game’s official X account, one of the featured properties is the K Residence in Tottori Prefecture, where a former resident is reported to have died alone. A second property, Hotel Céline, is a closed-down accommodation facility that the agency you work for has tasked you to survey.

While Japan Stigmatized Property currently has a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam, the title gained attention in Japan thanks to streams and gameplay videos by local content creators. Though its sequel doesn’t seem to deviate too far from the source material, the idea of exploring real-life haunted areas in Japan is enough to get anyone’s spine tingling.

Japan Stigmatized Property 2 is currently in development for PC (Steam). There is currently no announcement for a mobile version.
