Dragon Quest 1 & 2 HD-2D Remake post-game streaming restrictions have finally been lifted

Square Enix's ban on streaming and posting footage of specific parts of Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake has been lifted.

Now that a month has passed since Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake’s release, Square Enix is finally lifting its guidelines on the game’s story-related content. Players can now stream and post images and videos of gameplay without fear of their content being taken down.

Starting today (November 30), restrictions on live streaming, video, and image posting for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake have been lifted. We still kindly ask that you continue to be mindful of posting spoilers so that many people can enjoy the experience for themselves. We hope you’ll see the new conclusion of the Dragon Quest Erdrick trilogy with your own eyes.

Despite their age, Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest II are story-driven RPGs that rely heavily on their narratives. To avoid spoiling the surprise for players, Square Enix implemented several strict guidelines that prevent users from posting streams, images, and videos of gameplay, particularly for sections following the second staff roll in Dragon Quest II. In addition to the original stories, series creator Yuji Horii also hinted at a surprise for players at the end of their playthrough, which could easily be spoiled by others.

Light spoilers for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake follow.

Dragon Quest 2

There are several things to do after defeating the first final boss of Dragon Quest II. In addition to new explorable areas such as the Cave of Confusion and Cloudsgate Citadel, a new final boss and true ending are also available that give the whole trilogy a more interconnected feeling. The new finale has been quite moving for most DQ fans, and a very welcome addition overall.

Square Enix’s lifting of the spoiler gate doesn’t mean that the studio is giving the go-ahead to ruin the story for everyone else. As a final note, they encourage everyone to be “mindful of posting spoilers” so that others can experience the games for themselves. Although, given that several reactions to the post already mention spoiler-filled thumbnails and streams, it’s best to be cautious if you’re still midway through.

Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake is available for PC (Steam), Nintendo Switch, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
