Last month, Magical Girl Witch Trials developer Re,AER announced that they will be establishing a new video game company alongside developer HYDE. The new company, Acacia Games, is based on Re,AER’s creative brand Acacia, with the goal of developing and further expanding the brand’s original titles.
In recent interview with Famitsu, Acacia Games representative Toshiyuki Hata shed some light on his vision for the future of the brand following the success of Magical Girl Witch Trials. With a Nintendo Switch version scheduled for Spring 2026, he shared that the team is also preparing for “North American expansion.”

Magical Girl Witch Trials launched in July 2025, and in October it was announced that the game sold over 200,000 copies on Steam. At the time of writing, the game has over 15,000 reviews and an Overwhelmingly Positive score on the platform. “We’re really astounded by such an unexpected turn of events. Witnessing our game making such a huge leap in growth in such a short time is really eye-opening,” Hata commented.
It’s only been around three months since the game’s release, but with the announcement of Acacia Games, the development team already seems to be looking for new opportunities to expand their creative endeavors to a wider audience. “Since we’re making preparations for the upcoming Switch release and North American expansion, we wanted to consolidate a team that would be able to live up to these expectations, and the establishment of Acacia Games is one part of that plan,” Hata explained.

While details are still scarce, the mention of a “North American expansion” indicates there could be a possible English-language release for Magical Girl Witch Trials and other titles under the Acacia Games umbrella. The game currently only supports Japanese and Simplified Chinese, but its wide popularity and a steady English-speaking fanbase could be what motivated Acacia Games to start making moves towards expanding to the West. “Of course, our goal is to become the number one, both in Japan and the whole world – and we’re prepared to go the distance,” Hata said.
Magical Girl Witch Trials is a gothic mystery visual novel that pits 13 girls against each other in a series of cruel witch trials. While the game presents itself as a “dark magical girl” story, reminiscent of works like Puella Magi ☆ Madoka Magica and Magical Girl Raising Project, the gameplay loop has drawn numerous comparisons to games like Danganronpa.
Magical Girl Witch Trials is out now for PC (Steam), with a Nintendo Switch version coming Spring 2026.
