Game developer Mages announced on November 18 that the upcoming remaster of their sci-fi visual novel Steins;Gate, appropriately titled Steins;Gate Re:Boot, will be postponed for 2026. The game was originally slated for a 2025 release.
According to the announcement, the decision to postpone the release for next year was made to “further enhance the quality” of the game. As they explained, “We’re moving forward with development to achieve an overall step-up in quality that would be appropriate for modern gaming environments, including graphics enhancements and system optimization.”
But while the postponement may sadden some fans, Mages says that new announcements about the game are just around the corner. As per the Science Adventure series official website, publisher Spike Chunsoft is going to reveal some fresh details about the game during WePlay Expo 2025 in Shanghai, which will take place on November 22 and 23 this year.
To keep fans updated, Mages also revealed some brand-new artwork and game stills from Steins;Gate Re:Boot. According to the development team, all character designs (created by Huke), backgrounds and event stills have been completely revamped to better depict the narrative and make it feel more dramatic and immersive. Furthermore, additional scenes and locations not present in the original game have been added, hinting at an expanded storyline and scenario.

Steins;Gate Re:Boot is set to release in 2026. More details will be announced soon.
