FromSoftware and Bandai Namco Entertainment recently announced that Elden Ring Nightreign will be getting a major update on September 11. Titled Deep of Night, the free update will add a new high-difficulty expedition mode with stronger enemies, exclusive relics and additional weapon effects. This comes separately from Nightreign’s planned paid DLC, which is supposed to come out in Q4 of 2025 and introduce additional playable characters and bosses.
Meanwhile, the news about Deep of Night has been met with much delight among Japanese players on X, who are (positively) taken aback by the scale and pace at which Nightreign is getting new content. Amusingly, there’s a prominent number of people who wish FromSoftware would charge them more for the game, even jokingly proposing the addition of microtransactions.
This game costs like $40 dollars? But full-price games nowadays cost $50, $60 or even $70+ dollars?? FromSoftware… please give us some paid content. Skins, decorations, something. How the hell are we supposed to satisfy our urge to support you?”
Although the calls for paid content and whaling opportunities are largely in jest, there seems to be a consensus among Japanese players that Nightreign is offering far more entertainment than the average game in its price range. Japanese language reviews over on Steam tell a similar story (87% percent positive), with reviewers commenting things like, “the moment I start feeling hungry, they put out a new dish,” “I haven’t been so hooked to a co-op game in 20 years” and “this game never loses flavor.” It’s rare to see near unanimous positivity on basically any topic online, but Japanese peoples’ love for FromSoftware might be the closest thing to it.
Elden Ring Nightreign is out now PC (Steam), PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
