Resident Evil official account declares the Duolingo bird its new biological weapon. Duolingo responds: “English or Spanish?”

The Duolingo bird threatened Japanese Resident Evil fans that it will chase them forever until they're able to play the game in English.

Resident Evil’s horrors may be terrifying, but they are ultimately controlled by your decision to actively play the games. Duolingo’s Duo, on the other hand, knows no boundaries, and his constant reminders to do your language exercises keep you on your toes even when you’re going about your daily life. Acknowledging Duo’s existence as a real-world horror, Resident Evil Portal posted an image of the green bird modded into the Resident Evil remake. What followed next was a string of posts between the Resident Evil Portal and Duolingo Japan X accounts.

Seeing Duo’s muscular body replacing the T-002 Tyrant, the Duolingo Japan X account responded with a Photoshopped image of Duo in the Resident Evil 2 remake, this time replacing the T-00 Tyrant (better known as Mr. X by fans). Given Mr. X’s penchant for chasing the player throughout the Raccoon City Police Department and the underground Umbrella Corporation laboratory, Duo’s knack for pestering Duolingo app users fits well within the image context.

Riffing off of Duolingo’s reply, the Resident Evil Portal X account used the popular “English or Spanish” meme to ask fans what language Leon Kennedy is learning. Following several replies, fans decided that Leon is learning Spanish, on account of his trip to Valdelobos, Spain in Resident Evil 4. Resident Evil Portal then posted an image of Leon learning basic Spanish on a phone in an attempt to converse with the crazed locals.

”Story of my life.”

The latest reply in this thread comes from Duolingo Japan, which posted another image of a buff Duo wearing a fedora. As a stern reminder to Resident Evil fans, Duo warns that he will chase them until they can all play Resident Evil in English. Fans have responded to the post with their Duolingo statuses, to which Duo has expressed his approval.

Post translation: I’ll chase you anywhere until everyone can play Resident Evil in English.

Resident Evil Portal has yet to respond to Duolingo Japan’s post, possibly out of fear or not wanting the joke to overstay its welcome. What’s certain is that if Duo was actually that buff, no one would ever think of skipping another language lesson.
