Nintendo warns Japanese users about operating the Switch and Switch 2 at too high or too low temperatures

Nintendo customer support warns Japanese users not to use the Switch outside when temperatures are over 35 ℃ or under 5 ℃.

Amidst Japan’s sweltering summer heat, the official Nintendo customer support X account warns players to be mindful of where they use their Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2s. Using the consoles in high temperature-areas can cause them to heat up, which can lead to damages and poor game performance.

Post translation: When using a Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 in a high-temperature environment, the device’s temperature may rise. This could potentially cause malfunctions, so please use it in a location between 5–35°C. Recently, temperatures have been exceeding 35°C. Please be cautious when using it outdoors.

What’s interesting about Nintendo’s warning is that, in addition to a maximum temperature threshold of 35°C, a minimum threshold of 5°C was also included. This means that those who live in or travel to countries that experience low climate temperatures should also be wary of where they use their Switch consoles. Funnily enough, Nintendo users living in Hokkaido already seem to be lamenting the announcement, as temperatures there can easily drop below -10 °C in winter.

While you don’t have to carry a thermometer with you wherever you go, just make sure you aren’t playing with your Switch outdoors in the middle of a snowstorm or when the sun is beating down.
