Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma producer to announce new action RPG by the end of the year

The producer of Devil May Cry revealed his new game is already in the voice recording phase, with more announcements coming soon.

Hiroyuki Kobayashi, current CEO of GPTRACK50 and former Capcom veteran responsible for producing hits like Devil May Cry and Dragon’s Dogma, has been teasing a mysterious new “3D action RPG” for the past couple of years – and finally, it seems like he’s ready to announce it this year. In a joint interview with Famitsu, Kobayashi revealed that the game is already in the voice recording phase, and that his studio is making preparations for the big reveal.

“While I can’t reveal any details yet, everything is going as planned. In our New-Year’s greeting card for 2025, I said I wanted to announce it by the end of the year, and as a man of my word, I want to keep that promise. We’ve already entered the second half of the year, but rest assured that our studio is already preparing to make the announcement. As for how far development has progressed, we’re about to enter the voice recording phase.”

Kobayashi says that, while featuring some RPG elements, his upcoming game will be heavily action-based. However, he insists on calling the game an “action RPG” rather than just an action game as he doesn’t want to give false hope to fans expecting something like Devil May Cry again. “I used to refer to the project as an action game, but there were many people expecting it to be something like Devil May Cry because I’m involved in it. It’s not a good thing to give people the wrong idea of what to expect, so I ended up calling it an action RPG.”

Kobayashi has actually brought this point up in pas interviews too, suggesting that this mysterious new game is going to be nothing like the previous titles he’s worked on. Some of his peers have even called it “not Kobayashi-like” – and apparently, for good reason. Kobayashi explains that with this title, he is aiming to convey something completely new, while still sticking to a classic action game framework. He has also stressed that the game will not be a soulslike.

We’re already entering late July as of writing this article, and with only around 5 months left till the end of the year, it seems like the big reveal of GPTRACK50’s first game is going to happen any time soon.
