Quantum Solutions has temporarily halted development of JP Games’ Project Jewel (working title). The high-budget RPG was initially announced under the tentative name “Shallah,” and a working demo was completed on July 10, 2024, but there have been no updates on the project in the meantime (source: GameBiz).
JP Games is a game studio founded by former Square Enix developer and Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata. In February last year, the company announced Shallah, described as a cutting-edge RPG for adults that draws on the tale of “One Thousand and One Nights.” The game was announced as a joint project between JP Games and AI development company Quantum Solutions, with the latter signing a partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Investment for the game’s funding.
Quantum Solutions now say that after evaluating project Jewel’s demo, they decided the game needed changes to better fit market needs and asked JP Games to revise parts of it. However, they claim that JP Games hasn’t provided “a clear response” to these requirements yet, which is why development has been halted. The company says it’s still evaluating the assets received from JP Games and carefully considering their future usability and potential, but that “no further development or investment is expected to progress at this stage.”
Should development of Jewel resume or be formally canceled in the future, Quantum Solutions will make a separate announcement.
