Capcom has announced the cancellation of a planned lecture on Monster Hunter Wilds’ optimization at Japan’s CEDEC 2025 (Computer Entertainment Developers Conference). This decision likely has to do with harassment and targeted threats its staff has been facing over Monster Hunter Wilds’ performance issues.
CEDEC is Japan’s largest game development conference, bringing together industry professionals from major game companies to share technical know-how about game development. The 2025 event is scheduled to run from July 22 to 24, with around 200 sessions planned. Several of these are organized by Capcom, covering topics such as narrative design and UI art, using Monster Hunter Wilds as a case study.

Among these, a session titled “Making Monster Hunter Wilds run smoothly! Everything you need to know about optimization” has been cancelled. According to CEDEC’s description, the lecture was supposed to cover the technicalities of performance tuning using real-life examples from Monster Hunter Wilds’ development, with the engineers covering issues related to CPU, GPU and memory load.
While Capcom did not officially specify the reason for the cancellation, it likely relates to recent backlash surrounding the game. On June 30, Monster Hunter Wilds got its long-awaited Free Title Update 2, which introduced new monsters Lagiacrus and Seregios, along with gameplay- and performance-related adjustments. However, following the update, players began reporting critical bugs, frame rate drops and crashes. A patch was released on July 1, but some players reported CPU usage spikes after installing the update.

Capcom has acknowledged these concerns on its official X account and expressed its commitment to improving the game’s stability. However, criticism from players in Japan and overseas remains harsh, and some of the comments addressed to Capcom’s staff were extreme enough to prompt a statement from the company.
On July 4, Capcom issued a notice about its Anti-Customer Harassment Policy. While emphasizing how much it values player feedback, the company said that its staff has been facing harassment via customer support channels and social media. Alarmingly, this includes targeted threats against individuals, so it’s very likely Capcom was thinking of the developers’ safety as another factor when it decided to cancel the CEDEC lecture. Meanwhile, the company warned that it will be taking legal action in severe cases of harassment against its employees.
Dear lord the balls on these people. Optimziation? They need to get lessons not give lessons. Turning on frame gen is not a form of optimization.
These players are fucking pathetic lmao i couldnt possibly imagine being so extremely retarded that i would threaten or harass the devs THAT ARE ACTIVELY FUCKING LISTENING how the fuck do you honestly pathetically believe that some new settings were the absolute most they were going to do? Im a better player and fan of the games than people there from day one over 20 years ago because i actually recognize what it fucking takes to make a game that large run better these things we call “players” disgust me they should honestly be banned for acting like this and more so i encourage legal action they could have genuinely given us a fucking planned future of performance updates in that talk that was planned but ofc ape ass morons dumber than bricks cant comprehend FUCKING PATIENCE capcom should just forget about the losers whining like bitches on pc because behold behold! Its runs perfectly on console not surprising from devs that have been making console optimized games FOR OVER 20 YEARS
Honestly, I don’t see what the big deal is. I haven’t had any real issues playing the game at all really. A hiccup here and there, but it’s been solved by lowering my graphics settings. Even at medium it still looks pretty good, and runs decently enough.
The funny thing is, not many PC players had performance or mechanic issues with this game until about a month ago Capcom came out and said “yeah… Cheat codes and mods are not allowed in events and arena”. Capcom immediately went and removed many players from the leader boards. They then started to ban cheaters. Players could not participate in events and arena so long as they had mods. The Steam then community went ballistic and left scathing reviews after scathing reviews. This is on top of the fact that there is probably many PC players with rigs that can’t handle the game properly or is so powerful that the game actually looks clunky.
Yet Capcom was gracious and at the start of the game while you are loading in they placed instructions on how to let them know about your thoughts on updates. The Devs actually listened and tried addressing this. Yet all the sweaty cheating mod hungry PC players apparently decided to harass them to the point they were concerned for their safety.
I am willing to bet that if Capcom came out and stated they were no longer banning mods and hacks, the PC community would suddenly be praising the game again.
I like capcpm
Harassment? Wtf who’s Harrasing this is why we can’t have anything freaking nice!
I play on the PlayStation 5 and I’ve haven’t had many issues I think it’s a great game still and I love it I’m rooting for the monster Hunter and Capcom corporation just keep trying your best Capcom
Harassing devs is never right, its usually crunch caused by the suits in charge that rush development.
However, it is sad that AAA gaming is at the extent where you cant even buy a game on release because it boils down to praying that they even support it long enough to optimize it
@Volomon you read all of this and yet you still chose to make this comment. I guess we found one of the callers making threats. Pathetic.
Optimization? Do know don’t care. Not cool people sending threats. Though the real problem is that, one, the controls need to be janky, not smooth like they are; two, why is my character voiced? That’s absolutely silly; three, how you gonna call it open world, and then tell me I can’t go places.
Seriously, they went from an awesome, buck wild experience with very little had holding to something that’s fine, but I can clear any hunt in 10 minutes with normal shot 1. At least Gravios is back. 7/10 game.
This is a fake story that they made so that they don’t have to publicly acknowledge how poorly optimized their game is. We as a society needs to stop accepting companies hiding behind this instead of facing accountability to their customers.
Right, good on them to listen, but I feel like them giving a lecture on performance and optimization would be akin to circus performers giving a lecture on nuclear physics. They should fix their own game first and learn those valuable lessons before they can share them. As it stands right now all they have is a half baked game that is “being fixed”. Aren’t they getting the cart ahead of the ox a little here? I wouldn’t mind them doing a lecture on listening to your player base, sure, but not the lecture on optimization lol. Turning on DLSS and frame gen is not optimization, it’s pure crutches and flex tape.
