In response to a string of Bluesky posts he made in early 2025, Deltarune creator Toby Fox revealed his reservations regarding Deltarune Chapter 3’s main antagonist, Mr. “Ant” Tenna. After learning that fans have warmed up to the character, Fox is glad he created him.
Despite being one of Deltarune’s few 3D-rendered characters (thus making him immediately noticeable), Fox was worried that Tenna’s personality was too much like the Chapter 2 character, Spamton. Givenhow quickly players meet Tenna after encountering Spamton, as well as the two characters’ energetic yet occasionally sinister personalities, his previous reservations regarding Tenna seem justified.

Fox likens Tenna and Spamton to Antonio Prohías’ Spy vs. Spy Mad magazine comic, in which two spies (one dressed in black and the other in white) routinely try to one-up each other using devious traps. In this manner, Fox says that the two Deltarune characters mutually enhance each other. As one fan cleverly puts it, Tenna is not a “budget Spamton” in the sense of being a cheap copy, but in the sense that “he is Spamton if he had a budget.” While Spamton is busy making ends meet as a shady salesman, Tenna is the titular host of the Mr. Ant Tenna’s TV Time game show. Regardless of their financial stability, it seems Fox is happy that both of his characters have found a home in the rapidly expanding Deltarune universe.
Deltarune Chapters 1-4 is now available for Nintendo Switch 1 and 2, PC (macOS and Windows), and PlayStation 4 and 5.
