In addition to having its first screening on May 19 at the Cannes Film Festival in France, The Exit 8 movie, based on Kotake Create’s hit indie game, recently won the best movie poster award during the Prix Luciole Awards ceremony.
As a partner of the Cannes Film Festival, the Prix Luciole Awards ceremony aims to raise awareness of the importance of poster designs in movie promotions. The jury at the awards ceremony reviews posters of films submitted to the festival and judges them based on their creativity, appeal, and in the case of the Exit 8 movie, simplicity.
According to the official Exit 8 movie X account, it was the movie poster’s minimalist approach that won the judges over. Featuring subway tiles and actor Kazunari Ninomiya (who plays the main character) trapped within the giant “8” in the middle of a yellow background, the poster evokes a sense of being trapped in a bright, well-lit subway. As this theme resonates with the plot of the Exit 8 film and the game it is based on, the yellow background and subway tiles are featured prominently throughout all of the promotional materials (you can even find it on the movie’s official webpage and novel adaptation).
The Exit 8 movie will be shown in movie theaters in Japan starting August 29.
