Suikoden IP Producer Rui Naito shared more details about the upcoming Suikoden II anime adaptation during the Suikoden Live Broadcast last May 15, 2025. As Konami Animation wants to fully depict the classic game’s narrative, Naito confirms that the story won’t end within a single season.

Taking place three years after the events of Suikoden, Suikoden II’s main story centers on an unnamed protagonist and his best friend Jowy Atreides as they each gain one-half of the Rune of the Beginning – one of the 27 True Runes that hold immense power. In addition to their newfound powers, the player character and Jowy get caught up in an ongoing conflict between the Highland Kingdom and the City-States of Jowston. Suikoden II has multiple endings and side stories, many of which depend on your choices and willingness to recruit the 107 available party members (called “Stars of Destiny”).

While Naito did not specify how many episodes or which parts of the game’s story would be adapted in the first season, his statement that the anime would “fully depict the protagonist and Jowy’s story” carries a lot of weight and promise.
Suikoden: The Anime was announced earlier this March and will be adapting the story of Suikoden II. Konami Animation will be producing the anime, with Yuzo Sato (Muteking The Dancing Hero, Trillion Game) as director. Considering how Suikoden I & II HD Remaster: Gate Rune & Dunan Unification Wars successfully honored the original two games, Konami’s animation division might be on the right track.
