The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy will get an anime adaptation if the game sells well, director says

Kazutaka Kodaka says an anime adaptation of The Hundred Line is "definitely" on the table, provided it sells enough.

Given Kazutaka Kodaka’s track record, including creating the widely popular Danganronpa franchise, it’s no surprise that the game director is eager to turn his latest project, The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, into an anime series. The game is part-visual novel and has over 100 endings, so the idea of condensing such a large project into a linear, watchable series seems both daunting and fitting.

Responding to fan requests for an anime adaptation on X, Kodaka says he would be more than happy to animate the series. Since The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy has so many narrative options, Kodaka is unsure if the anime would feature an original story or one of the existing in-game storylines. Interestingly, Kodaka considers that the The Hundred Line would, plot-wise, lend itself to an anime adaptation even better than Danganronpa did.

Kodaka assures fans that an anime adaptation of The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is “definitely” on Too Kyo Game’s to-do list, provided the game sells well enough. With a current Metacritic score of 85% and a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, that doesn’t seem unrealistic, but with how much the the game cost to make, it might take some time before the development studio is ready for further investments. Fan support was already high for The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy, but Kodaka’s wish for an anime adaptation has prompted many to promote the game even more passionately.

The Hundred Line: Last Defense Academy is out now on Steam (Windows) and for the Nintendo Switch.
